During 2023, UNFPA Equatorial Guinea implemented the fifth and last year of our seventh Country Program Document CPD 2019-2023.
Through concerted efforts with Equatorial Guinea government, civil society organizations, including youth organizations, and the private sector, we have achieved successes with more women having pregnancies by choice, and not by chance, more women giving birth under the care of skilled health personnel, and more young people accessing quality information to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and other STIs, to avoid early pregnancies, and to access sexual and reproductive services that enable them to make healthy and informed choices.
UNFPA Equatorial Guinea 8th Country Program Document CPD 2024-2028 was approved by the Executive Board on August 2023. It represents an ambitious roadmap developed in line with the national priorities identified by the Government in its Agenda 2035 and in line with the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2024-2028 and the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025.
In 2024, we are committed to step up our effort to tackle harmful gender norms and inequalities, invest in young people and protect the bodily autonomy of women and girls. At UNFPA we believe that data and evidence underpin all of this, and we must continue to generate data and understand population dynamics and trends in a manner that helps us to assure that all women and men, and girls and boys, enjoy the dignity and human rights to expand their capabilities, secure their reproductive health and rights, and contribute to economic growth.
Undoubtedly, the availability of a high-quality population data at national, sectoral, and local levels is crucial to designing and sustaining Equatorial Guinea’s policy responses and effective development of programs, including macro-economic management, planning, monitoring and evaluating programs towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
We will continue to adapt, innovate and, work closely with our partners, and ensure that our solutions are best suited to the context and needs in Equatorial Guinea.
UNFPA highly values our partnership with the Government of Equatorial Guinea, civil society organizations, implementing partners, sister UN agencies, and our donors. The progress and results highlighted in this report were only possible with your support. With strengthened partnership and continued support, we can do more together, and continue to deliver results for women, girls, and young people of Equatorial Guinea. We express our most sincere gratitude to all our partners for their support to UNFPA Equatorial Guinea.
