On the occasion of March 8 Women's Day and under the theme "Gender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow" the staff of the United Nations System in Equatorial Guinea composed of the agencies of: UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, WHO, FAO, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, UNDSS and UNESCO, has benefited this Tuesday morning in the auditorium of the building, between 10:00h to 11:00h from a talk, on Human Rights, Gender Equality and Peace in relation to Women, facilitated by Ms. Sylvia Ghaly, Senior Advisor on Human Rights and Gender in the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO) with the collaboration of Ms. Flora Isabel M. Obama, the Gender Program Officer of UNFPA, where she has addressed issues on:

- The importance and origin of the celebration of Women's Day (March 8).

- The challenges and difficulties of women to achieve gender equality.

- The difference between gender and sex.

- The problems faced by Women on Peace in the world (Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Development).

- The activities on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment promoted by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Gender Equality at the country level with the support of UNFPA, such is the case of the elaboration of the Code of the Family and Persons in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea; the Draft Bill on the Integral Protection to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and the Draft Bill regulating Traditional Marriage in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (pending approval).

All those present participated actively and the event ended with the delivery of T-shirts with messages and a cocktail offered to the participants by UNFPA.
