MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, July 1st to 6th, 2024 – The National Institute of Statistics of Equatorial Guinea (INEGE), with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has initiated a six-day training workshop to prepare its technical staff for the Fifth General Population and Housing Census.
The workshop, attended by 35 INEGE technicians, aims to strengthen the capacities needed to carry out these important statistical operations. Participants will receive training in various areas, from the planning and design of the censuses to the collection, processing, and analysis of data.
At the opening of the workshop, Mr Ricardo Nsue, the General Director of INEGE highlighted the importance of these censuses for understanding the demographic reality of the country, as well as for planning public policies based on accurate and up-to-date data. He thanked the support of UNFPA and the two international consultants from IFORD, whose technical knowledge will be fundamental to the success of this initiative.
Mrs Hind Jalal, UNFPA Representative in Equatorial Guinea, reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the statistical capacity of Equatorial Guinea. "Quality data is essential for sustainable development," said the UNFPA Representative. "These censuses will allow Equatorial Guinea to have key information to make informed decisions and design policies that improve the lives of its people."
Population and housing censuses, as well as the agricultural census, are fundamental tools for understanding the socioeconomic reality of a country. In the case of Equatorial Guinea, with its rich geographical and demographic diversity, these censuses are especially important for understanding the needs and characteristics of its population, as well as for promoting agricultural development, a key sector of the national economy.
The INEGE training workshop is a crucial step in the preparation of these censuses. It is expected that the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants will contribute to the successful completion of statistical operations and the production of high-quality data that will serve as a basis for decision-making and the design of effective public policies in Equatorial Guinea.
