Bata, September 15-16, 2022. To highlight the importance of midwifery and the challenges of professionalizing the midwifery specialty, the United Nations Population Fund country office in Equatorial Guinea delivered on September 16 to the Faculty of Health Sciences of the National University of Equatorial Guinea in the city of Bata, an important batch of didactic content for the training of future midwifery professionals. The event was of great relevance and at a timely moment with the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year being celebrated. A total of 108 copies of the didactic contents of the Training Program of the Obstetric Gynecological Nursing Specialty (Midwife), have been officially delivered to His Excellency the Vice Rector of the National University of Equatorial Guinea, by UNFPA representative Dr Donaciano Eyeguemangue, SRH/HIV/AJ Program Officer.
The interventions of the interlocutors converged at pointing out that there is still a lack of visibility and appreciation of all the work that midwives accomplish. Both in sexual and reproductive health and the importance they have in advocating for maternal rights and their impact on the development and welfare of the population is overlooked. They concluded that it is essential that future maternal and neonatal health professionals (midwives) are trained and gain experience in technological advances to ensure the exercise of their duties with the best possible quality and safety for women".
