The UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation works to address female genital mutilation through interventions in 17 countries where the practice is prevalent. It creates opportunities for girls and women to exercise their rights to health, education, income and equality to help end the power imbalances that underpin this harmful practice.

In this regard and as part of the activities planned on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Mutilation (FGM), February 6, 2022, took place yesterday Thursday, February 17 at the Hotel Colinas in Malabo, the presentation of the book entitled "Female Genital Mutilation: The Shadow of Female Empowerment in the society of the XXI century" by the equatoguinean author Mr. Tito MBA ADA in the presence of the Third First Deputy Minister in charge of Human Rights, H.E. Mr. Alfonso NSUE MOKUY, as well as the Representative of UNICEF, Mrs. France BÉGIN and the UNFPA Representatives, Mr. Himyar ABDOULMOGHNI and Mr. Jaime NSUE respectively.

It is a work written in 3 languages (Portuguese, Spanish and French), where the author, Mr. Tito MBA, defends in this analysis the Human Rights of women and girls victims of Female Genital Mutilation as one of the most brutal Human Rights violations, calls on governments and international organizations not only to provide the necessary legal and other means to raise awareness, protect and support the victims, but above all, to prosecute the offenders. So that the deadlines for action, in particular of the European Parliament, be concrete in their actions, as well as in the adoption of binding instruments to combat this violence, so that this inhuman practice is eliminated.
